Through my Filipino diaspora, the ideas of tradition and heritage continue to evolve and challenge my artistic identity. These ceramic works signify practice of my karmic realignment. The repetitive intent of touch mimics generational customs and rituals.
I have created this work as a response to facing realities of being a third culture identifier, one who belongs to a mother culture but has developmentally grown in a culture other than their own resulting in the synthesis of a third culture.
The lattices that adorn my modern forms and silhouettes are a nod to classic and commonplace Filipino craft. Whereas, the abrasion of surface treatments question time and place, capturing the idea of my generational belonging.
